Windowsill botanicals for wellbeing

During this difficult period, it is so important to look after and protect ourselves both physically and mentally.

I believe the power of plants can help us do this. Even if you don’t have a garden there are many useful plants that can be grown on sunny windowsills to do this.

Recently I been using my plants to help with self care, to relax my mind, to boost positivity and to just generally look after myself.

I recommend you try these three self-care pick me ups. The plants used in them do not require you have a garden because they can be grown on windowsills too. No garden required, yay!

1) Firstly start your day with rosemary tea. Your rosemary plant can be harvested all year round and to make rosemary tea, all it takes is a freshly picked stem and hot water! It is a great pick-me-up first thing in the morning if you feel unmotivated (especially if you are struggling with working from home just now). It also helps with digestion and as a mood and memory booster.

2) If you are anything like me, you might experience dull dry hair from time to time. I know mine gets neglected during times of stress or busyness when I’m not really looking after it properly. A good solution to this is to make your own hair rinse. All you need is a teaspoon of a dried herb such as rosemary (which again can be grown on your windowsill) or any dried herb you like. Dried chamomile can also be very lovely in this hair rinse. All you need to do is take one teaspoon of your dried chosen herb mix it with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (fear not the smell will disappear quickly) and add 200-300ml of boiled water, let it cool, strain the infusion and rinse your hair with it after washing. Voila, instant shine!

3) One of the best ways of relaxing, is of course having a bath. Nothing beats it. Baths soothe the mind and body and help  us switch off for a while. To make an easy natural bath soak, hang a small muslin bag on your bath tap and it fill it with lemon balm leaves (which again you can grow on your windowsill). If you want you can also add mint and rose petals if you have any. As you fill your bath tub allow the water to run through it and it will infuse the water with beautiful botanic aromas.

Hope you enjoy growing and using your plants to aid in your own wellbeing. This is such a difficult time for a lot of people just now but we will get through it.

Much love x
