Recently I have started making soap and have found real enjoyment in doing so. The first batch I made was lavender and lemongrass and it is beautifully soft and moisturising (unlike many of the soaps I get from the supermarket which are so full of chemicals and unnatural scents which dry and irritate the skin).
The beauty in soap making is the freedom and creativity you can have with mixing essential oils and dried flowers. There is just such a huge scope for experimentation and I also enjoy the packaging process. With this first batch of soap I cut it into rustic shapes with no precision (which was intentional) and then wrapped each block in hessian then tied it with twine and two silk bluebell heads.
I choose not to use soap molds as I far prefer the rustic homemade look.
Next week I am planning to make a lovely exfoliating yet moisturising soap with goats milk and oatmeal. Will let you know how it turns out.
